Paramount - direct light source

return link

The subject is lit with a single main light. In this case, there is no fill light or reflector. This was done to showcase the shadow pattern and darkness of shadows created by a direct light source. This contrast is similar to direct sunlight.

The main light is positioned high and almost in front of the subject. (between 0-15 degrees off axis). If the main light is moved to about 30 degrees off axis, the nose shadow would move off to the side and all of the shadows would appear to "wrap" around the subject. That is known as "loop" lighting. "Rembrandt" lighting is about 45 degrees off axis, and split lighting is about 90 degrees off axis.
