Paramount lighting

return link

Named for the style of lighting used by Paramount Studios for their promotional portraits, this lighting is characterized by the
"butterly" shadow under the subject's nose. This is caused by high placement of the main light, almost directly in front of the subject, angled down.

Note that the shadow side of the face is nowhere near as dark as Rembrandt lighting.
The fill light (or reflector) will not have to be as strong for this type of lighting.

Shadows create the illusion of depth. This style of lighting is more "flat" than Rembrandt.
In the past, men were lit with more dramatic light than women. One appears to have "character" and the other is "softer".
