Student
Submissions Single Page Ads

Students in the Desktop Publishing class were to create thumbnail sketches of their layout for a single-page
process color magazine ad. This hypothetical print job was to be run on a large sheetfed offset press, and no allowance for gripper margin was required. Likewise, there was no concern for ghosting or total ink
coverage. A project like this is pushing the limits of a desktop publishing class, bordering on pre-press production.

Each student was to generate thumbnail sketches of how they would arrange the photo(s) used in the ad.
Any and all props were to be brought to class, and they were to practice the set-up at home prior to class.
We shot digital photos at 3000x2000 pixels@300ppi using studio flash. From there, the student converted the image
to cymk, cropped, and adjusted levels. There was no predefined curve to apply to the photo, so we just
pretended that our monitors were calibrated.

at low resolution for the web. The origninal artwork is cmyk at 300ppi, appropriate for press.
