You are held accountable to the policies set forth by the State Center Community College District. You are not to use the computers to play games. load or copy software, or view/display material of a sexual nature, or engage in activities that are not deemed appropriate for a school setting. Realize that you can be dropped from class for violating these policies.

Deadlines will be established for project work and students are expected to submit materials on time. Late work will be accepted with a reduction of one letter grade per day late. The student is responsible for making arrangements if they are unable to attend class. This includes but is not limited to the following actions:

  • Notify me of the absence. Call my voice mail number (listed at the top of this sheet) or you could contact the Applied Technology office and ask to leave a message in my mailbox.
  • Make necessary arrangements to submit any project work that may be due on the day of absence.
  • Realize that there are no make-up quizzes/exams.
  • Handout materials are only available during the class in which they are distributed. The student should make arrangements to copy another students handouts.
  • Extenuating circumstances warrant an excused absence or lateness. I will make a decision when you contact me in advance.

Absenteeism is not tolerated in the workplace and I encourage students to develop positive work habits in preparation for employment.

Students may be removed from class due to excessive absence but it is the student's responsibility to drop a class. Please do not assume this to be an automatic process.
I am not the person who is responsible for your college performance.

Evaluation
All class work and outside assignments will be awarded a point score. The number of points attainable will vary with the assignment. Specific information will be provided with each assignment.
It is possible to determine percentage by dividing the denominator into the numerator. For example if the score on a project was 40/50, the grade is 80 percent. I do not create a curve, or scale grades.

Students have an opportunity to repeat project assignments to improve their score and skills if they wish. Revisions are to be performed in addition to regular assignments. This offer is limited to one repetition per assignment and only applies to graded work. If the student has not submitted the project, or has received a "zero" on an assignment they are not eligible to make revisions. The maximum grade attainable for revised work is a "B".
All project work is due two weeks before the end of the semester.There will be a final exam in this class. It may be written or performance, or both. It will count as one additional grade to average for the semester. We will conclude our final activities by the end of the last week of classes. We will not meet during the scheduled final exam period.

Final grades are determined by averaging all scores for the semester. Attendance issues are deducted from the grade. I do not post grades upon completion of a course.

Students are responsible for earning their grade in class. I will be pleased to discuss grades at any point during the semester and encourage students to arrange a meeting. I will maintain regular office hours and the student can schedule a meeting during that time. I have two mailboxes on campus. One is located in the administration building mailroom and the other is in the Applied Technologyl Division office (T-100). Students may leave messages in either location.

I maintain a web site featuring the Graphic Communications program. This is useful in describing and advertising the various courses we offer. At my discretion, I post examples of student project work. Students must realize that their project work may or may not appear at this website. If a student does not wish their work to be displayed, they need to voice that concern to me personally. I will not post or display works against the wishes of the student.

Occasionally, there may be an error in grade recording. Whenever I grade materials, I provide a written receipt or an email associated with the project. Quiz and test papers receive a written grade on the paper itself. I will be happy to review graded materials, but it is the sole responsibility of the student to retain and produce the grade receipts. Without a receipt, the grade remains unchanged.

Student classroom behavior is not generally an issue in the Graphics program. By this point in their lives, students are usually mature adults who understand how to conduct themselves in a professional setting. For sake of clarity, students need to be aware of the following:

1. Although questions are appropriate, we all need to stay focused on the topic at hand. Sometimes, it is more appropriate to pursue a dialogue after class, or during office hours, rather than create a distraction.

2. All people in the classroom are expected to be courteous and considerate of each other.
There is no tolerance of humiliation, rudeness, inappropriate humor, gender, cultural, racial, or ethnic bias, speculation or dispersions about sexual preference, intimidation in any form, harassment in any form, or confrontation. This class is to be treated as a professional work place. There is to be no profanity, obscenity, or vulgarity in the classroom. I retain the right to determine what is and is not appropriate behavior in this classroom. There will be no distractions to the educational process that every student is entitled to purse by virtue of enrolling in a class.


I will ask a student to leave the class for these reasons. If leaving becomes a problem, I will refer the situation to the campus police. In every instance involving any of these issues, a report will be filed with the Dean of Students, and a copy will be sent to my Division Dean, and the department chair.

Upon the third instance of my asking a student to leave, I will drop the student from the class and file additional reports with the administration.

3. Substance abuse will not be tolerated in this classroom.

Please refer to the District and Campus policies regarding student deportment on campus. You are accountable for each of the regulations.

Final Evaluation Criteria
A = Excellent = 90 percent and better
B = Good      = 80 "  "
C = Average  = 70 "  "
D = Poor       = 60 "  "
F = Fail          = less than 60 percent
IC = Incomplete = only available in unusual circumstances.
